As a co-operative, we require parents to be actively involved in the school through class Participation and Family Responsiblities. Additionally, we provide an important Parent Education program led by our highly qualified, experienced and caring teachers.
Established in 1961, Carlmont Parents Nursery School is a thriving and diverse community based on shared values and experiences.
In this busy Bay Area, families are often juggling many different things. Families have many activities, different schools, different dismissal times, many commitments. It's easier when you have a strong network or community to rely on.
"Quite simply, play offers parents a wonderful opportunity to engage fully with their children." From the American Academy of Pediatrics
CPNS offers a unique extended family: like-minded parents who have made a conscious decision to be actively involved in their children's education and have committed themselves to give of their talents and their time.
Many families have said that after walking through the gates of CPNS, they couldn't imagine sending their children anywhere else. This feeling of trust, safety and camaraderie is cultivated over time through many shared experiences. Parents work side by side in the classroom, support each other in parenting seminars and help each other out in times of trouble or need. At CPNS you will find people who bring you meals when you are too sick to cook or have just had a baby, whom you can call when your child needs a ride, whom you trust to watch over your precious ones while you take a nap (!), and whom you look forward to spending time with.
"CPNS has been a gift to our family. CPNS taught us how important it is to be involved in our children's education. It taught us how essential good parent education is and how working together through a co-op school could be one of our family's most valuable experiences. We understood how important it is for kids to learn through play and held firmly to this philosophy, even when the academic world was telling us differently. Our children are now in 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th grades. They are all thriving, happy children. We still volunteer in the classrooms, take part in PTAs, plan class picnics, and take part in the fundraising activities. We are still hungry for parent education and take any opportunity to soak up something new. CPNS was where it all began for our family." Paige Singh, CPNS Parent 1996 - 2004
CPNS also offers opportunities to practice your leadership skills—as a co-operative preschool, our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteer CPNS parents who dedicate one year to the business management of the school.
This sense of community does not end when your child leaves CPNS. You may stay connected for many years after. Many families have formed friendships which have lasted lifetimes.
As you volunteer in your child's elementary classroom, help out with fundraisers in high school, or sit on the sidelines of your child's sporting event, you will be in the company of many CPNS Alums.
